10-minute De-stressing Exercises
We all need to get away from it all sometimes but more often than not, we can’t really afford to take time for weekend retreats.
If you have no time for these getaways, here are some simple 10-minute exercises you can do to get the relaxation your mind and spirit need:
- Blank space – The periods in the day that we refer to as ‘lazy time’ are actually necessary to de-stress your mind. During these moments of idle time, just stare calmly into space. Forget about your to-do list and other anxieties for a short while. This moment of blankness will bring you the clarity and calmness that you don’t get from working.
- Conscious breathing – When you find a moment alone, pick a quiet spot like your living room or your garden. Sit or lie down comfortably and relax. Take slow breaths, deeply inhaling through your nose and exhaling with your mouth. Imagine that you are in a tranquil place, like a quiet beach, forest, and the like.
- Meditate in the bath – If you have the luxury of having a bathtub at home, fill it with warm water and scented salts or soap. Then lie in the tub and switch off your mind. Just let your senses take over. Don’t give yourself a time limit, or pressure yourself to calm down; it will only make you more anxious.
- Musical retreat – Get your hands on a compilation of serene music like nature sounds, plain instrumentals, or even spa tunes. Play this mix while lying down on your bed or your living room couch. This is great for bedtime because it can give you the nice, peaceful slumber you need.
